Why Most Small Business Websites Sound the Same (And How to Fix Yours)

One tells. The other shows exactly why a horse owner should choose you.
Or say you are a dog trainer.
“We use positive reinforcement methods” is fine.
But “I help reactive dogs learn to walk past other dogs without losing their minds, so you can stop dreading every walk” tells a dog owner, this person gets my exact problem.
That is the difference specificity makes.
How to Fix It
Start with how you actually talk and think about WHO you are talking to.
If someone at the barn or a dog show asked what you do, you would not say: “We provide customized solutions designed to meet your unique needs.”
You would say something like: “I help horse businesses and pet owners get their websites to actually bring in clients.”
That is your real voice. Use it.
Get specific — uncomfortably specific.
Specificity is what makes copy stand out. Vague lines do not cut it, especially in industries like equine and pet services, where trust is everything and your prospects are comparing you to three other options.
Instead of: “We offer a range of services for you and your horse.”
Try: “We specialize in dressage training for adult amateurs on green horses, because your first horse should not mean your first injury.”
Clear always beats clever.
Focus on the reader, not yourself.
Your website is not about what you offer. It is about what your audience needs. Your prospect is a busy barn owner, a vet juggling 60-hour weeks, a dog trainer trying to fill classes. They want to land on your site and immediately know: Is this for me? Can this person help? What do I do next?
Make those three questions easy to answer, and you are ahead of 90% of your competitors.
Make it scannable.
Most visitors are not reading every word. They are scanning. If your homepage is a wall of text, they are gone. Clear structure, short sections, and simple language make the difference between a bounce and a booking.
